What causes erectile dysfunction and Peyronie's disease?

As you age, blood flow to the penis may slow down, reducing your ability to achieve firm erections and enjoy spontaneous sexual intercourse. Losing the ability to savor your sexual power can harm your self-esteem and damage your relationships.

Yet age doesn't necessarily cause ED. Male aging doesn't guarantee erectile dysfunction. In many cases, ED is a temporary condition caused by stress at work or home, exhaustion, or another short-term situation. However, physical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure can stimulate or intensify ED. For instance, decreased blood flow to the penis combined with a minor physical injury or condition may slow sexual response, leading to performance anxiety. Emotional challenges like depression, anxiety, or other phobias or mental difficulties can cause ED.

Occasional ED should not cause you serious concern. Temporary stress, relationship difficulties, or other life challenges may interfere with your ability to maintain an erection. However, frequent or distressing ED may require professional attention.

Peyronie's disease is often caused by trauma to the penis. When your penis is injured, it can regrow scar tissue that doesn't stretch when you experience an erection. This can cause painful or non-painful penis bending, making erections and sex painful.

That's why Novus is proud to offer you the Priapus shot (p-shot), an exciting new ED therapy system designed to reduce or eliminate your ED or treat your Peyronie's disease without the need for dangerous surgeries or costly medications.

What is the P-shot?

The P-shot is one of today's most innovative ED treatments available. It involves injecting your penis with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), an advanced serum synthesized from your own blood sample.

Platelet-rich plasma contains many more platelets than typically found in blood. Platelet concentration also contains special proteins called growth factors. To create PRP, a skilled Novus technician will draw sample of your blood and separate it from the platelets in a centrifuge.

Concentrations can contain up to ten times more growth factors than in typical blood samples, so they may promote soft tissue cell regeneration and control inflammation, increasing the size and strength of your erections.

The platelet and growth factor serum is then placed into a syringe. Then, guided by state-of-the-art ultrasound imaging, your Novus provider will inject the P-shot into your corpus cavernosum, the area of your penis responsible for the vascular functions related to erection.

PRP contains many beneficial cells, such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), fibroblast growth factor (EGF), transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1). Studies show that PRP's powerful regenerative properties may also improve your nerve and vascular function.

The injection process takes about 30 minutes, with virtually no required downtime. You should see results within 1-3 weeks. The effects may last up to a year.

For Peyronie's, you'll receive the P-shot once every 6-8 weeks for a total of 3 injections. You'll also be advised to do physical exercises like walking or physical therapy to improve your blood circulation and gain the P-shots' maximum benefit.

What are the benefits of the P-shot?

The biggest advantages include:

  • high success rate: most patients report positive, long-term effects
  • fast application: from blood draw to completion, the P-shot takes no longer than one hour
  • near immediate effects: no long-term waiting for results
  • ease of use: no pills to take or devices to manage
  • low risk of negative reactions: PRP is taken from your own blood, so there's no risk of your body reacting badly to the serum
  • simple in-office procedure: no hospital stay, general anesthesia, or long recovery time
  • nearly painless: local anesthetic masks any associated pain
  • non-exclusive: you can combine these procedures with other ED treatment options like Viagra, Cialis, or a penis pump
  • possibility for penis size gains: a welcome added benefit

What results can I expect from my P-shot?

The P-shot is intended to give you stronger, firmer, and longer-lasting erections. Many patients also report a heightened sense of sexual vigor and enjoyment after getting the P-shot.

Some patients see results within a few days, but it may take several days or weeks to notice the improvement. Your benefits may last several months or up to a year. Some patients report the P-shot effects are permanent.

For Peyronie's disease, you should expect to start seeing results within 2-3 months. The benefits are typically permanent.

As with any medical treatment, results will vary from patient to patient, depending on age, genetics, environmental conditions, and other health factors.

What are the potential side risks and side effects?

While side effects are generally mild or minimal, any medical procedure may produce side effects. Side effects of the P-shot may include:

  • bruising, swelling, tenderness, pain, or redness at the blood draw site
  • bruising, swelling, tenderness, pain, or redness at the injection sites
  • temporary skin discoloration
  • infection (rare)

Tobacco smokers may experience less dramatic benefits from the P-shot.

If you experience severe pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, infection, or any other concerning side effects, don't wait—contact our medical professionals at Novus or seek emergency medical attention right away.
